Scream Blu-Ray Special Features Revealed

With the Scream trilogy blu-ray discs coming home on March 29 after only being announced fairly recently, we expected a worse case scenario of completely bare-bones discs aimed at rushing the movies back into the marketplace to meet demand created by the theatrical release of Scream 4. The best case scenario of brand new extras in such a small time-frame simply didn’t seem possible.

So it’s a happy compromise to find the result somewhere in the middle: It is now confirmed the blu-rays will port over at least the primary special features from previous DVD releases whilst the films themselves will be upgraded picture and sound quality. Hi-Def Digest mention 1080p video and a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack and Amazon list the features which are expected to be upscaled from standard-def:

Scream
• Audio Commentary by Director Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson
• Production Featurette
• Behind the scenes: “On the Scream Set” and “Drew Barrymore”
• Q&A with the cast and crew
• Theatrical trailer

Scream 2
• Audio commentary with director Wes Craven, producer Marianne Maddalena and editor Patrick Lussier
• Deleted scenes with optional audio commentary by Wes Craven, producer Marianne Maddalena and editor Patrick Lussier
• Producer Marianna Maddalena, and Editor Patrick Lussier
• Outtakes, Featurette
• Theatrical trailer

Scream 3
• Audio commentary with director Wes Craven, producer Marianne Maddalena and editor Patrick Lussier
• Deleted scenes and alternate ending with optional audio commentary by Wes Craven, producer Marianne Maddalena and editor Patrick Lussier
• Outtakes
• Behind the Scenes montage
• Theatrical trailer

Amazon list the aspect ratios as 1.85:1 but we hope that’s a mistake, as the films were shot in the wider 2.35:1 format. And there’s no mention of the Director’s Cut for the first film, but that matches the original DVD being the Theatrical Cut anyway. We’ll wager that a boxset with new supplements will be on the way around the time Scream 4 hits DVD/Blu.

So will you buy these BD’s now, or wait and see what the future holds?

Reader Advisory: Comments may contain SCREAM 4 SPOILERS
  1. So are these basically all the perks that came with the box set on DVD?

  2. Will someone please explain to me what watching the film in 1.85:1 compared to 2.35:1 does? Does it mean the crop it and we loose some part of the film?

  3. Ordered 1 and 2 for now. Will sell those if an upgrade or box set is announced.

  4. I’m going to wait until scream 4 comes out on blu ray to get the box set and hopefully they will have more special features instead of just the same features.

  5. I want a boxset (with the original trilogy only), so I’ll wait.

  6. Ive got those special features already so yep, im waiting for more!

  7. I’ve always thought this. Doesn’t Steve look like Matthew Perry in this scene?

  8. I doubt they will produce new features for the first three.

  9. @JRT – Yeah, if they’ve gone and re-formatted the films to an aspect ratio of 1:85, then they’ve basically sliced off the edges (!!!) and screwed with Wes Craven’s artistic vision for the films.

    So let’s just hope that’s a mistake on Amazon’s part :O

  10. Well my main wish for the Blu-Ray Trilogy was for the upgraded picture and sound.I wasn’t expecting new features for the release.Pretty basic logic they would release it before April. So old and new fans can catch up before April 15th. I wonder when still screaming will be released? I say the Blu-Ray trilogy should come with a ticket. To pay off a ticket for Scream 4 for all the old school fans. As for Steve i’m going with Charlie Sheen dude’s got his spittin image.

  11. I just love that the Amazon page lists the lead actors for Scream as Roger Jackson and David Booth (right under the title). Obviously Jackson is the voice of Ghostface, but Booth is the father of Casey Becker who has about 2 minutes of screen time.

The top-billed actor for Scream 2 on the Amazon page is Omar Epps. Ha!

Scream 3 top-bills Liev Schreiber and Roger Jackson.

How does Amazon come up with this stuff?

  12. 1.85:1 is better because it actually fills up a widescreen TV without those annoying black letterboxes.

  13. Sure Mike. Let’s loose the left and right sides of Wes Craven’s specific frame composition so you can show your plasma tv off to your friends. Woo!
