How Williamson Escaped Finishing Scream 4

In one piece of news we have the return of both Weinsteingate and Kevpocalypse! A new article focuses on Kev’s non-Scream project Shadows but makes reference to the screenwriter leaving Scream 4 way back – revealing he basically settled in court to get out of his contract, and got some decent coin off it too. And good for him, right?
Kevin Williamson Sued by The Weinstein Company Over ‘Shadows’ Film Project
Kevin Williamson might have just encountered a legal scare worthy of his “Scream” films.
Williamson was slapped with a lawsuit by The Weinstein Company, which alleges that Williamson is wrongfully attempting to retain the rights to a film project called “Shadows.”
Read the full lawsuit here.
According to the suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Williamson and The Weinstein Company reached a settlement agreement in May 2010 releasing Williamson from his obligations for “Scream 4″ in exchange for “substantial sums of money to which he would not otherwise have been entitled.” (The settlement agreement stemmed from a dispute between Williamson and Weinstein over an alleged breach of obligations.)
The suit claims that the agreement includes the stipulation that Weinstein would receive the exclusive right to exploit a film project called “Shadows.”
However, according to the suit, Williamson argues that the agreement merely guarantees him to certain financial payments in regard to Shadows,” and contends that he is the sole owner of “Shadows.”
Williamson’s agent and attorney have not yet responded to TheWrap’s requests for comment.

I am more interesting in “Shadows”.. is it another scary movie or a suspense-flick? I really want to see another movie written by Kevin. The Weinstein and Ehren Kruger ruined the life of Kevin.

So the reunion that was scream 4 ended badly, courtney and david divorced! Kevin williamson and the wankstein bros (not a spelling mistake) have ended up in court, what next? Neave cambel and wes craven arrested and jailed after all night crack binge! Emma roberts becomes real life killer after stabbing her auntie (julia roberts)to death! Ok probably not, but who knows what drama will follow. For me scream 4 was a great film and a bonus entry to a franchise I thought was long dead. As long as the scream 4 drama continues making headlines they still give us fan one thing, hope for scream 5. Also this shadows film sounds promising, I think the plot should go as follows: a wonderful creative writer named kevin writes a great film, but the greedy studio execs interfere with the movie, they kidnap him and replace him with a mindless robot named ehren kruger who is emotionless and works for peanuts, kevin breaks free and lurks in the shadows as he picks of the studio execs one by one finally beating the robot ehren to death with a script containing awful dialogue, finally ehren releases his film and the world is saved.

To Kevin Williamson,
Scream, the Faculty, and yes, even Cursed, are all films I like. Why? Because they take the cliche’s of a genre and then do what spielburg and lucas did to indiana in that amazing south park episode. Thankyou for attempting to bring us films that break the norm. Your presence in the Scream franchise and film will be sorely missed. And since I don’t watch your crappy tv shows, I’m going to have to end our relationship.
Yours truly,
A big fan of yours who used to give a s**t about Scream, and anything of a film career you might have left.
Dearest weinersteins,
I have nothing to say that I haven’t already said. Thanks for some great flicks, but you guys really do blow when it comes to creative talent.
Yours truly,
Not your biggest fan.
Dear Mr Craven,
Go work under some producing banner who will respect your work and give you what you deserve. Free creative reign.
Yours truly,
Someone who still thinks you have an ounce of brilliance sparkling somewhere in that black hole of hollywood oblivion you’ve fallen into.
Dearest scream fans.
Let’s put away our ghostface masks of hope. Or we could boycott anything with a weinstein attached to it just to prove a point. I think the former is what most will choose.
Yours truly.
Just a dude with an opinion…that means jack.

this my friends i think should be the end of the Scream Franchise, with the lawsuits and of course courtney and david’s split. i think this really ends all of any hope that scream 5 would bring back original writer and original actors from the first 4…well 2 1/2. i guess if a new scream is made kirby will be found alive and moved to a new town and then her and her new friends are stalked and killed. meaning the end of the originals and start up of the low points. while the premise i gave is intriguing i just cant see a scream without neve, courtney, david, and possibly wes. i think scream franchise should end before it is tainted

@Gannon-David and Courteney* were already over during Scream 4. And All 3 are on contract for the next 2. Wes as well. We need a new writer anyways.

David & Courtney aren’t even divorced yet and none of them are under a contract.
Dimension and co. just reduced Kevin’s planned trilogy into ‘Scream 4′. ‘Scream 5’ literally has no place to go. Who else could possible want to kill Sidney, and for what purpose? Prescott should pretty much off herself to save the lives of other would be victims.
I myself would love to see another ‘Scream’ in the future. However, make it something fresh, fun and exciting. Not generic direct-to-video garbage that, let’s face it… is the only thing The Weinstein Company can muster up the doe for these days.

@Johnathan actually they are on contract. “In an interview, Craven confirmed that he was contracted to work on a fifth and sixth installment of the Scream franchise, to be made if the fourth film achieves a successful release and reception.[20] Following difficulties with script rewrites on Scream 2, Scream 3 and Scream 4, often with pages only being ready on the day of filming, and the related stress of the situation, Craven stated that he would need to see a finalized version of a script for Scream 5 before committing to the production.[21] In a separate interview, writer Williamson also confirmed his contractual obligation for Scream 4 and Scream 5, having submitted concepts for three films leading up to Scream 6, though his contract for the sixth film had not yet been finalized. Williamson indicated that if a Scream 5 were to be made, it would be a continuation of the story of the characters who lived through Scream 4 but that Scream 4 would not include any cliffhangers that led into the potential sequel.[22] Actor David Arquette also added his support to the potential future of the franchise, stating “It [the ending] definitely leaves it open,” before adding that he would welcome the opportunity to play the character of Dewey in future installments.[23] In May 2011, executive producer Harvey Weinstein, confirmed that a sequel was possible, saying that despite Scream 4 performing below The Weinstein Company’s financial expectations, he was still happy with the gross it had accrued.[24] In February 2012, when asked about a potential Scream 5, Williamson stated that he would not be involved, saying “I’m not doing it.”[25]“
