Scream TV Series Making Progress

MTV’s upcoming Scream series pilot is moving along nicely, with writers now selected, according to industry rag Variety.

Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin will pen MTV’s small screen adaptation of “Scream,” it was announced today at the network’s TCA session.

Pair’s credits include “Criminal Minds,” “Revenge” and “The Event.” MTV revealed it would be piloting the horror franchise at its Upfront in May.

Before the feigned shock at Kevin Williamson not being the writer: he was never a realistic choice. He hasn’t be a realistic choice for Scream for years. Love the guy to death, and he’s my hero, but for Scream he’s akin to an ex you keep going back to even though you know he can’t make a commitment. Scream 4 was a decent booty call, though.

It’s worth mentioning the chosen writers have a solid background in crime shows, so it’s likely the Scream TV show could be a realistic take on slashers. You know, like the first Scream. But with an emphasis on police procedural, anchoring it more with adult characters rather than teenagers. I don’t know about you, but I’d watch that every week.

Reader Advisory: Comments may contain SCREAM 4 SPOILERS
  1. This sounds great! With adult characters, that is..

  2. I watched Teen Wolf and I’ve been nicely surprised. So in that case I have hopes for TV series… But still, I’d like to see Scream 5 happen as well. :)

  3. I like teenage chartacters though.

  4. I just hope the writers focus on scares and suspense as much as I know they’ll focus on the crime themselves and police procedure.
Also very glad to see the site is up!

  5. it’d be cool if it focused on other town members and theyjust called it “woodsboro”

  6. Well you are correct in your last paragraph. IF it was on Fox or NBC or hell even The CW these days. But it will be on MTV which means teens, teens and more stupid teens.

  7. No, no, no, no, no, no, no….not MTV, not MTV, anything but MTV…..ruining my life……no…no…no…….

  8. ………………..why MTV -_- and why Scream series ?!!! i knew something like this would happen , just continue making Scream movies , because i know that the same writers and other producers wont do a series , i mean kevin williamson already left the crew and he was the best writer for the scream movies ! smh
