MTV’s upcoming Scream series pilot is moving along nicely, with writers now selected, according to industry rag Variety.
Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin will pen MTV’s small screen adaptation of “Scream,” it was announced today at the network’s TCA session.
Pair’s credits include “Criminal Minds,” “Revenge” and “The Event.” MTV revealed it would be piloting the horror franchise at its Upfront in May.
Before the feigned shock at Kevin Williamson not being the writer: he was never a realistic choice. He hasn’t be a realistic choice for Scream for years. Love the guy to death, and he’s my hero, but for Scream he’s akin to an ex you keep going back to even though you know he can’t make a commitment. Scream 4 was a decent booty call, though.
It’s worth mentioning the chosen writers have a solid background in crime shows, so it’s likely the Scream TV show could be a realistic take on slashers. You know, like the first Scream. But with an emphasis on police procedural, anchoring it more with adult characters rather than teenagers. I don’t know about you, but I’d watch that every week.
