Alliance/Universal will release the Scream Franchise Collection onto Blu-Ray in Canada on August 10th. Dedicated special features are unlikely, as the company are known to release straight upgrade ports of titles in their library. It’s entirely possible the strange name is to allow room for a revamped trilogy-titled set once the inevitable USA new boxset gets its act together.

RRP is $39.99 but Amazon.ca have a pre-order price of $27.99 (now, that’s in Canuck dollars).

The Scream trilogy are already available on BD format in various parts of the globe either in full or in part (Australian release of part one pictured), offering gorgeous high-definition transfers that need to be seen to be believed.

Wes Craven has shared some great news via Twitter – a release date for his most recent horror film My Soul To Take. Fans wanting to get a feel for how the master’s directing skills have developed prior to Scream 4 will want to check it out come Halloween this year – which come to think of it makes it the perfect “bridge” movie between now and April.

My Soul To Take which will hit theatres in both 2D and 3D (post-converted) formats tells the story about the legend of a serial killer who returns to the small town of Riverton to murder the seven children that were born the night he allegedly died. Sixteen years after his death, members of the community begin to disappear.

It’s hard to sum up an original beast like this sounds to be, but consider it A Nightmare On Elm Street meets Final Destination.

You heard us right. He has given several of the new screen masks away to fans just to be an all-round nice guy. You have to remember, we are nowhere near the promotional push for Scream 4 yet, so giveaways like these and the posters Wes Craven gave out are entirely at their selfless discretion.

We are kicking ourselves – most severely – for missing out on that epic grab for the brass ring of Scream merchandise, but we’re pleased to hear another chance may pop up in future. So keep an eye on Torbert’s Twitter – or better, both eyes.

Lastly, the news of movie edition masks hitting retail next year thrills us collectors, but we hope that on the horizon Fun World will produce a screen-perfect Ghostface Movie Costume. Yes, the existing robes available since 1996 are serviceable if you want to go dance a jig at the Halloween Dance, but there is a big gulf between those and what was created for the Scream films. Heavy fabric with a subtle sparkle and an all-encompassing hood, to name some points. Scream as a horror franchise lacks the type of high-end product available to fans of other genre entities, so those with a disposable income hope to see this remedied.

Hollywood powerhouse The Weinstein Company is now free of its $450 million (£300 million) debt following a ground-breaking restructuring deal which saw the company hand over the rights to 200 films including Halloween II and Scary Movie 4.

The film studio, set up by movie moguls Harvey and Bob Weinstein in 2005, spiralled into debt over the last few years following a series of shaky investments in fashion, TV and online projects.

But the firm is now back on track after the Weinsteins agreed an innovative deal which will see insurance company Ambac pay $115 million (£76.7 million) of the debt to financial companies Goldman Sachs and Assured Guaranty.

The movie moguls wiped the rest of the debt by handing over control of 200 films to executives at Goldman Sachs, but they managed to retain the rights to the company’s most high-profile movies including Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction and the Scream franchise.

The Weinstein Company will also receive a distribution fee on the titles now owned by Goldman, according to The Wrap.

Harvey Weinstein tells the website, “(It is) the perfect deal – four companies perfectly aligned, in a deal that recoups incredible value for The Weinstein Company, and gives us the wherewithal to continue… We won’t be buying clothing or internet companies. Those days are over.”

The deal means The Weinstein Company will be able to move forward with a number of projects, including The King’s Speech, which will see Colin Firth playing England’s stammering King George VI, and I Don’t Know How She Does It with Sarah Jessica Parker.

It’s Scream vs. a slew of slasher and horror icons in TerrorDrome!The PC game has been kicking around for a few years now as it proceeds slowly and meticulously through creation (it is unofficial, it should be noted).

Based on the good notices it’s been receiving lately, Scream-Trilogy gave it a shot. Besides a few quirks, it’s a decent game. Very reminiscent of Mortal Kombat in it’s use of realistic-looking CG models and massive splashings of gore. The fighters are quite specific in their recreations of movie moments within the action. Old Man Krueger can turn into the giant Freddy Snake from A Nightmare On Elm St 3: Dream Warriors.

There’s a whole roster to pick from, but we chose ol’ Ghosty (naturally). All we really employed were some daring dashes and slashes with the hunting knife. We were unable to pull off any special moves, save for some frantic button mashing which resulted in a funky knife-spin disco dervish which should really appear in Scream 4 as a crude commentary on Dancing With The Stars.

While we beat Herbert West of Re-Animator fame, Chucky from Child’s Play used his short stature to his advantage, taking us out in the knees. But hopefully our readers out there will fare better. Give it a go.

Weinstein attorney Bert Fields said the lawsuit was a “sure loser.”

“Let me say it very plainly. Ms Konrad’s lawsuit is just plain baloney,” he said. “It never should have been filed.”

Fields said Konrad’s deal did require her producing services to be exclusive to the “Scream” production. “The contract says she’s supposed to be exclusive,” Fields said. “If you ignore the contract, what she says makes sense. But that’s why we have contracts.”
