Jeez...a few of y'all make it sound as if they toned it down completely of their own accord. I also read it was due to the whole 'violence in movies/media' schtick. I swear I hate Soccer moms...blame them

the columbine massacre also caused an uproar about violent media influencing ppl..

the studio as a result caved in due to pressure..(hence the dialogue in scream 3 between roman, milton, the producers and the police on the set of stab 3)...i believe if the movie had been bloody it would have been possibly more epic than its predecessors and would have made huge controversy and backlash..alot of horror movies in the late 90's got toned down due to the cotroversy

If I can recall... the studio was going to make Scream 3 PG-13 but decided against it.

another thing!..this is random but: i think roman should have put a fake decapitated version of his own head(movie prop(he could make one seeing as how he had acess to a horror movie studio) in that coffin for gale to find rather than him playing dead and fooling her..it just seems so weird to me now seeing him lay in there..i know its a movie but i think her finding the head would have worked better..especially since he worked with props..he could have even put blood on that guillotine that gale fell into to make it look like it really happened..also randy did say you have to decapitate the killer in the third one(forshadowing anyone?)lol

it wasn't as bloody/gory/violent as the first 2 because they toned down all of that because of the columbine massacre
