Do you think before the events of S4, Sidney had some Martial Arts or Karate training? Watching S4 earlier and seeing how she kicks Ghostface through the film she definitely looked like she knew how to kick in a defensive manner. One can't really blame her for taking up training after the events of the first three movies, even post-S3 she'd be smart to always be ready to defend herself if anything. I'm not exactly an expert on Karate or MA, but looking at the way she kicks and takes position in S4, she definitely seemed to know what she was doing.

This might beg another question as to why she seemingly didn't receive such training around the time of S2 and S3. I think it's understandable during S2 she was just trying to move on with her life and felt it wouldn't happen again, and in S3 she's living in fear after what happened and always on alert. By the time S4 happened, she probably figured it wouldn't hurt to have extra protection in the form of some MA skills she could use.

It's believable Sid would take self-defense classes. I figured the kick was an idea from Neve, due to her background as a dancer.

I really hated this moment in the film. I found it awkward and comical. It got a lot of laughs in the theater.

She probably did take them, because I know I would.

And I agree with JB, I honestly didn't like the kick, I wish she hit him with something.

I love the bit where she kicks him. It was badass to see and it showed all these years later that Sidney knew how to handle herself and wouldn't let Ghostface keep her down.

I believe so, yes.

I wasn't a fan of the kick itself though. It just seemed unrealistic, fake and cheesy.

The kick scene made me have mixed feeling

loveit but it looked unrealistic.

Should watch any action Korean film (Old Boy, the Chaser etc) whose kick scenes were realistic :D

If we're refering to the kick which Sidney gave the Ghost to the face in Olivia's house (and not that terrible kick in Kirby's stairway) then, yes. I loved it. It just showed how badass she was and how she wasn't afraid to run from the killer anymore.

The kick, to me, symbolized a much braver Sidney Prescott.

The kick Sidney gives to Ghostface on the stairway at Kirby's house was silly, I agree about that. It wasn't realistic.

I don't see how the kick she gave Ghostface in Olivia's was silly? I mean, it just showed how Sidney had grown up and gotten stronger and braver. She certainly wouldn't have done that in the original film. She would have ran for her life and locked herself in a room. But in Scream 4 she's come a long way since then and isn't afraid anymore.

I just think with Sidney doing all this it makes Ghostface seem weak.

Well, isn't that the entire point? Sid isn't a weak character. And Ghostface isn't an invincible entity either. It's always just some human under a costume. Sidney proved that indeed it is just a psyco hiding behind a robe and mask when she had the balls to stand up to herself.

If Ghostface was strong and invincible throughout that would make for a boring film IMO.

Sidney's kick was comical and made Ghostface feel even less threatening than he already did in the film.

Unrealistic or not I thought the kick looked pretty cool, and I didn't mind Ghostface taking the blow so hard since he/she is always a regular human under the costume who can actually be injured and feel pain.

I believe she probably did take up Martial Arts of some kind. I liked both kicks because, as mentioned already, it showed how far she had come since the events of Scream. She wasnt going to be afraid anymore.
