Because if it isn't (which it looks like thus far), then I think it will suck.

....I feel as though my Scream films bias is going to ruin this show for me... /cry

Its for a new generation, very far from ours, but I think it will be a little bit watchable.

All of this.

I just watched the first 8 minutes...I'm not convinced yet. It doesn't help that Bella Thorne's character (Casey Lite? haha) is unlikeable from the get go. At least Casey was a sympathetic character.

I'll watch it, but I'm not convinced I'll like it. :|

So far, it's not as good as the movies in my opinion. They mentioned Sidney once... And the ghostface mask is not the same!

If it's like any of the movies it's like scream 4......for the new generation. It's a really good stand alone to series and I'd like to see it stretch out for a few more seasons.

I agree that the movies can't really be beaten. However, for a more modern audience the TV show is easier to relate to. I personally really enjoyed it and think it was acted very well by the cast. However, i can't say i liked it as much as the films and also preferred the costume in the films as it was far more detailed whereas in the TV show it just a basic poncho, and a mask. Overall though, i would recommend the TV show. The creators haven't tried to copy the films which is a good thing.
